Plasma and Energetic Electron Environment and Effects Extension S/C Anomaly Analysis

ESTEC/Contract No. 13561/99/NL/SB

Monthly Progress Report

SAAPS-MR-5-99

Period: 1999-07-17--08-27

Author: Lars Eliasson

1. Progress status

Travel to England to attend the 6th progress meeting for the SEDAT project at RAL. Mike Hapgood chaired the meeting. The other attendants were Alain Hilgers, Eamonn Daly (ESTEC) and Alexis Glover (MSSL). We had also a short discussion with Geoff Reeves (LANL) about the availability of the keV electron data. It seems that the data will become available but further work has to be done. This might include a trip to LANL.

Continued work on URD for database and db tools (WP110) and started work on URD for spacecraft anomaly analysis (WP210).

Continued contacts with Geoff Reeves after the discussions in England.

NGDC has been contacted about data policy. The reply from Daniel Wilkinson state that the data are not copyrighted so it is possible to include the data in the database. However, we should give credits to the data providers.

Web pages showing the schedule have been updated.

The satellite anomaly analysis module has been updated:

1) The database of Kp goes from 1976 to present.

2) A link to a web page with descriptions has been added to the analysis plot page.

3) The previous prediction model had an incorrect normalization constant that now has been changed.

None

3. Events anticipated to be accomplished during next reporting period

The new version of the Spacecraft Anomaly Analysis prototype (WP205) will be delivered.

4. Status report on all long lead or critical delivery items

None

5. Action items

The following 5 Action Items were defined during PM1 held in Lund 17-18 June.

1. Alain Hilgers will check if information in monthly reports and minutes have to be made public at the end of the contract. If not care must be taken not to disclose strategic information on, e.g., some data sources. **Answer given by email 990621**

2. Peter Wintoft will draft a list of questions and the list of people to contact and send to Alain Hilgers by the 22 June. **Agreed on list of people and questions. Letters were mailed 990702**

3. Alain Hilgers will send ESA documents describing the standard form of URD to Peter Wintoft by 21 June. ** PSS-05 documents received 29 June**

4. Peter Wintoft will contact NSSDC to investigate if there are any restrictions in using NSSDC-data for this project. **Contacted in August and positive answer received.**

5. Alain Hilgers will contact G Reeves and M Hapgood to arrange a meeting during week 30. **The meeting was held in England.**
