Monthly Progress Report
SAAPS-MR-25-99/00/01
Period: 2001-04-01--04-30
Authors:
Lars Eliasson and Peter WintoftThe SAAPS server, currently a Sun Ultra Sparc 5 with Solaris 7 operating system, has suffered some strange problems that have affected the operation of SAAPS. The problems have been temporarily fixed but a more thorough update is needed.
The prediction model for the Marecs anomalies is ready. The predictions have been verified against the original Matlab model. The next step is to implement the Applet for the interface.
The Kp database object has been modified. There are now two data fields. The first field is the Kp value and the second field is a flag indicating the type of Kp value. The flag is a number from 1 to 4 with the following meaning: 1) final Kp, 2) estimated Kp from SEC, 3) nowcasted Kp from Lund, 4) forecasted Kp from Lund. The Kp database has also been updated so that it extends from 1970 to present.
A paper for the 7th SCTC has been prepared and submitted.
One other activity related to the future of Swedish space weather activities has taken a considerable time during this month. This is submission of applications to the Swedish National Space Board and the Research Council asking for support of research concerning space weather modelling and forecasting.
WP 110 URD for the database and database tools
An updated User Requirements Document for the database and database tools URD version 1.1 of WP110 was delivered on 27 April 2000.

The following 9 action items were identified at the PM5 held at IRF 9 February 2001.
1. Peter Wintoft shall contact again Paolo Maldari (ESOC) before end of February.
2. Peter Wintoft shall submit test plan version 1.0 by 23 February. ** The test plan was submitted to Alain Hilgers 28 February.**
3. Peter Wintoft shall send email with user names and passwords to H. Evans, E. Daly, A. Hilgers, J.-P. Catani, T. Kuch, G. Reeves and C. Kunstadter by 12 February. ** All have been given user names and passwords 19 February.**
4. Peter Wintoft shall put the SRD Java implementation pages on the web on 12 February. **The SRD Java implementation pages are implemented.**
5. Peter Wintoft shall contact H Koons and ask about availability of anomaly data. ** H Koons has been contacted, but according to the information received the database does not contain the information needed for inclusion into SAAPS.**
6. Peter Wintoft shall update URD WP310 to version 1.0 by 14 February. **Version 1.0 was submitted 16 February.**
7. Peter Wintoft shall send a detailed schedule of the rest of the implementation of the analysis module to Alain Hilgers for approval before 12 February.
8. Alain Hilgers shall confirm the name of the new contracts officer for the project before 16 February.
9. Peter Wintoft shall help solving the problem with applets that occurred running SAAPS at Esrange. **Leif Kalla has successfully helped Esrange to find a way to run SAAPS**
