Monthly Progress Report
SAAPS-MR-17-99/00
Period: 2000-08-01--08-31
Authors:
Lars Eliasson and Peter WintoftThe GOES-10 real time proton, electron, and x-ray flux data have been added to the database. They automatically appear at the web-based tools (Data Plotter and Superposed Epoch Analysis).
The Java documentation of the code has been updated. The documentation is, as previously, available at http://sol.irfl.lu.se/saaps/saa psint/doc/.
The Data Plotter Tool has been updated so that a new window appears with the plot. This means that several plots can be viewed simultaneously. The windows contain a menu to adjust the appearance of the plot. (http://sol.irfl.lu.se/saaps/saapsint/saapsmodels/saaps/saam/DataPlo tterAppletAWT.html)
The Superposed Epoch Analysis tool has been updated with a random event list generator with which the background variation can be estimated. The tool now also uses the same type of plot window as the data plotter tool. (http ://sol.irfl.lu.se/saaps/saapsint/saapsmodels/saaps/saam/SEA.html)
Help pages to the two tools have been added and are accessible from the two applets, respectively. The help pages describe how the tools should be used.
A new set of neural network code has been developed and can be found in the two packages "saaps.ann" and "saaps.ann.mlff" (see the Java documentation pages). The code is a further development of the package "saaps.network". The name of package has also changed from "network" to "ann" so that it shall not be confused with other types of networks.
Progress Meeting 3 was held in Lund on August 14. (http://www.irfl.l u.se/saaps/saapsint/schedule/pm3.html)
The SRD Version 1.0 has been sent to Alain Hilgers on August 18.
WP 110 URD for the database and database tools
An updated User Requirements Document for the database and database tools URD v ersion 1.1 of WP110 was delivered on 27 April 2000.
WP120 SRD for the database and database tools, DB&T
The SRD Version 1.0 was delivered on August 18 2000.
The technical note TN 1 (Database and database tools) version 0.2 was delivered on 31 January 2000. This note had previously the title Exploration of data.
WP130 Development of DB&T
The database is running including all data that appear in the URD except the low-orbit data.
Historic data set consists basically of the OMNI data. All real-time data are being stored and some data are transferred to the historic data set.
Five anomaly data sets are now included. Some smaller updates have been made. The beta version will be made available before asking for more data from operators.
WP140 Test and update of DB&T
A test plan will be written and sent to ESTEC for approval.
WP205 Prototype of Satellite Anomaly Analysis Module, SAAM
A description can be found at: http://www.irfl. lu.se/saaps/saapsint/wp205/wp205doc.html
WP210 URD for SAAM
The User Requirements Document for the Satellite Anomaly Analysis Module URD W P210 version 1.1 was delivered on 4 November 1999.
WP220 SRD for SAAM
The SRD Version 1.0 was delivered on August 18 2000.
An updated version of the technical note was delivered mid-March. An updated version of TN 2 (Satellite anomaly analysis module) version 0.2 was submitted 3 April 2000.
WP230 Development of SAAM
Data plotter routine and the superposed epoch analysis module is running.
More tools, such as entropy analysis, help functions and typical values will be implemented in the analysis module in the near future for beta release.
A password protected beta version of SAAM will be sent to ESTEC by 14 September and after approval made available to some of the operators.
WP240 Testing and demonstration of SAAM with new data
Start T0+17 according to the schedule
WP305 Prototype of Satellite Anomaly Prediction Module, SAPM
The prototype was installed on the server in April 1999.
WP310 URD for SAPM
The User Requirements Document URD W P310 draft version 1 was delivered on 17 November 1999.
WP320 SRD for SAP
The SRD Version 1.0 was delivered on August 18 2000.
The technical note TN 3 (Satellite anomaly prediction module) version 0.2 was delivered on 17 January 2000.
WP330 Development of SAPM
Anomaly sets (Tele-X, Meteosat-3, Marecs A, NSSDC, TDRS-1 and ESA-1) will be analysed with entropy methods to determine the most relevant parameters for each anomaly data set. Solar wind parameters (n, v, B), position, time, and magnetosphere data (GOES >0.6 MeV, > 2 MeV, Kp, Dst, LANL 10 keV and100 keV) will be tested.
A systematic study will first be done using one anomaly data set and be continued by training neutral networks and implemented on the web. Anomaly classes will be defined based on the outcome of the tests. The results will be presented in Technical note nr 3.
WP340 Testing and demonstration of SAPM
Start T0+19 according to the schedule.
None
A password protected beta version of SAAM will be sent to ESTEC by 14 September and after approval made available to some of the operators. A test plan will be written and sent to ESTEC for approval.

The following 8 action items were identified at the PM3 held in Lund 14-15 August.
1. Peter Wintoft shall proceed with the investigation of low orbit data. He will contact Howard Singer for TIROS data before the end of August. ** An email (August 15) has been sent to Howard Singer at SEC about the TIROS SEM data.**
2. Alain Hilgers shall check all URDs and send comments or approval to Peter Wintoft by the end of August.
3. Peter Wintoft shall prepare a beta version of the SAAM for release and submit it to ESTEC by 14 September.
4. Peter Wintoft shall take contact again with Paolo Moldari (ESOC) and ask them to clarify what was meant by "official channel" before the end of September.
5. Peter Wintoft shall put the SRD version 1.0 on the web by 17 August. ** The SRD Version 1.0 has been sent to Alain Hilgers on August 18.**
6. Alain Hilgers shall comment or approve the SRD before the end of August.
7. Peter Wintoft shall write a test plan and send it to ESTEC for approval before the end of August. **A test plan for SAAPS is under development**
8. Peter Wintoft shall contact J. Allen to be included in the anomaly list. ** Peter Wintoft has been included on the J. Allen anomaly email list.**
Invoice for progress payment has been sent to ESTEC.
A meeting at ESTEC combined with the database meeting in the beginning of November was suggested for the PM4. The readiness review is planned to be held in Kiruna in February.
