Extreme solar storm, 23 July 2012
Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF)
Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB)
In 1993 and 1997 the Lund group arranged a workshop on “AI Applications in Solar-Terrestrial Physics” and in 2003 a workshop on “Solar Activity: Exploration, Understanding and Prediction”.
As part of a research project funded by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) this meeting was arranged. This is the first meeting in the sequence. The following questions were discussed: What observations are needed? How extreme can a solar storm become? How long is the build-up time? How to define an observable measure for an extreme solar storm? How can we warn and forecast them? How often do they occur?
All participantes of the meeting are also welcome to internal website
